The Innovation Institute and MIT Hacking Medicine Present Hacking Pediatrics 2020

Newport Beach, Calif. – Today, the Innovation Lab, a subsidiary of The Innovation Institute, announced that they will be launching their first Hackathon to transform pediatrics through technology on February 7-9, 2020. The Lab is working in partnership with MIT Hacking Medicine on behalf of the Innovation Lab’s seven Member Owner health systems. The event is free to clinicians, coders, developers, data scientists, and those interested in pediatric innovation. The 3-day in-person event will take place at the Innovation Lab in Newport Beach, Calif.

The Hacking Pediatrics 2020 event will bring together pediatric caregivers, data scientists, business leaders, computer science students, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders for a weekend of collaboration. According to an Innovation Lab spokesperson, participants can join a team, create prototypes and pitch solutions. Solutions from the winning teams will move forward into the Innovation’s Lab’s incubation process.

The event is scheduled as follows:

Friday, Feb. 7 – 5 pm – 11 pm – Registration, Hackathon Kickoff, Idea Pitching + Team Formation.

Saturday, Feb. 8 – 8 am – 11 pm – Hack, hack, hack! Mentors provide support. Work begins on pitches.

Sunday, Feb. 9 – 7 am – 3 pm – Teams finalize prototypes, pitches + presentations with mentors. Teams pitch to judges. Judges provide feedback to teams.

Judging criteria will be based on:

  1. Innovative – Does it reflect a creative & innovative approach?
  2. Solves a Problem – Does it represent a viable solution to a real problem?
  3. Easy to Use – Does it provide a solution with an idea for an intuitive user interface & experience?
  4. Intuitive – Does it provide an easily understood value?
  5. Functional – Can it functionally demo and does it have the potential to scale?
  6. Technological – Does it leverage technology in a unique way?
