Petra Participates in Groundbreaking for Covenant Health’s Short-Stay Surgical Hospital

Lubbock, TX – On Tuesday, April 2, 2019,  ground was broken for Covenant Health’s 115,000 square foot, short-stay surgical hospital. According to Covenant Health, the 32-bed hospital will be built to enhance the patient experience with special attention to healing elements such as access to natural light, views to green spaces, and optimization of privacy within patient rooms.

Construction is expected to be phased over the next two years, with an anticipated completion of December 2020. The new hospital will support 250 caregivers and 50 physicians.

In attendance at the groundbreaking were leadership from Covenant Health, including Richard Parks and Kelly McDaniel. Dr. Randy Hickle, former owner of Grace Health, which recently merged with Covenant, and many local city council members and media partners were also present.

“We are pleased to be involved in a project that is not only the development of a new hospital; but also an anchor for a larger multi-use campus centered around health and wellness,” said Jerry McPhail, Regional Director for Petra’s Texas region. Petra, an integrated construction strategies company, is working in alliance with Westwind Realty, LP, to build the hospital.

The project team includes Petra, HKS Architects for architecture, and Skiles Group as contractor.

“The master plan will feature residences, walking paths and green spaces, so the hospital is just one piece of the puzzle,” said McPhail. “Projects like this that promote wellness within a community beyond the structure are what we strive to create for our clients,” he added.
