Today, health systems realize that they are at a crossroad–change or be left behind. But change requires innovation, and innovation requires investment and risk. Most health systems are focused on addressing daily challenges of delivering care to their patients, accommodating evolving regulations and responding to the new players stepping in to capitalize on a new health economy that demands convenient, affordable, high-quality and consumer-focused care.
Several traditional healthcare organizations have tried to create innovation programs internally, but failed. Without the technology, resources and budget to sustain them, it is not an easy venture. As a former hospital administrator who understands the difficulty of innovation, if I had known of a trusted organization at the time that could help us transform our health system and identify new revenue sources, I would have jumped at the opportunity.
