By Joe Randolph | As we reflect on 2016 and move full speed into 2017, I am hopeful that the physician inventors we are working with through The Innovation Institute, a national health care technology incubator, will get closer to beating sepsis, the leading cause of preventable death in developed and developing countries around the world.

Sepsis affects over 26 million people worldwide each year and is the largest killer of children and newborn infants in the world. In the U.S., 258,000 people die from sepsis every year – one every 2 minutes; more than prostate cancer, breast cancer and AIDS combined. (Source: www.sepsis.org)

2016 marked the first World Sepsis Day calling for all nations to address the growing burden of sepsis, and bringing the problem to the limelight. The Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA), a worldwide collaboration of prominent clinicians and health care associations, is appealing to every country to establish a national action plan to reduce sepsis by at least 20 per cent by the year 2020.  More…
