Dr. Sarah Page from the Board of OCCAFP introduced Joe Randolph (President and CEO of The Innovation Institute) who provided the overview. “The physicians were very engaged tonight. Family physicians are on the frontlines and are always looking for ways to transform and improve patient care. The Innovation Institute provides the infrastructure for physicians to submit ideas and have them evaluated for commercialization at no risk. This is a great service to physicians who are entrepreneurs at heart,” said Dr. Page. The evening included presentations about the commercialization process from Larry Stofko (Executive Vice President of Lab Services), Ryan Kelly, PhD (Executive Director, West/IP & Licensing), and Afshin Nadershahi, MD (Executive in Residence). The team shared some examples of products that have come through the Innovation Lab and answered questions. The Innovation Lab accepts product idea submissions from physicians, clinicians, and the general public. Those whose products or ideas move forward to commercialization are able to share in the net proceeds with no cost or investment. Physicians can access the services of the Lab through the Innovation Institute’s website or they can drop in and meet with one of the team in Newport Beach.
